For the Animal Sanctuary we’re putting all our effort into look after farm or domestic animals in need of care and find forever homes for them.
If you are an animal donor or potential carer please get in touch with us and follow us on fb where we post their profiles and availability. All our rescue animals and retired dogs can be visited on the open days where you can also meet and greet available pets for adoption.
Cats
Our cattery accommodates up to 10 cats. The newly arrived stray or wild cats will be isolated, treated for worms and flees, on-site neutered by our vet Charlotte and join after 2 weeks the large community area where they can hang out and play with the resident cats until we find a forever home for them.
Birds
The spacious aviary is a safe and fun place for our birds to enjoy life!
Injured, surrendered or abandoned birds can find a new home here. They will get all the care needed until they are ready to go to their new home.
Small animals
Our fully fenced and secured ‘pet zone’ has space for small animals like chooks and flemish rabbits. As with all our animals they can be visited and petted during school visits, on open days or group events.
Farm animals
Cows, sheep, horses, alpacas, pigs and other farm animals are close to our heart. We rehome them if we don’t have space on our paddocks with great success, over 100 ‘bobby calfs’ already have been rescued and found a forever pet-home via the Te Paranui Farm Sanctuary fb page.
Fish
It is a common myth that fish grow only to the size of the tank. Goldfish and other fresh water pets can outgrow a home aquarium soon while living up to 25 years! We have access to a large pond where they can enjoy the rest of their long lives in a species appropriate community.
